The British University of Leeds Beckett has created a chatbot named becky to help young people find the most appropriate study program for them.

The goal of the chatbot is guide prospective students of the institution through the “Clearing” process, a kind of play-off for those who have not received any offer from a university and are still looking for a place.

Young people will be able to talk to Becky through Facebook Messenger, from your mobile phone or a computer. Through various menu options, she will guide you through the process, while assesses your suitability for each program.

To conduct this assessment, Becky asks the young people to write down a series of keywords, as well as provide information about their grades, and, based on the information provided, he makes them a tentative offer.

Of course, students also have the option of making a phone call and being answered by a human, but the main advantage of the chatbot is that it is available the 24 hours of the day

For Dougal Scaife, Digital Director of Leed Heads Beckett, young people already use numerous messaging applications to communicate with their friends, so "developing a chatbot was a natural evolution to interact with our future students in a medium that is omnipresent, familiar and comfortable for them.
