1MillionBot is already in 30 Spanish universities, student support, pre-registration and enrollment, IT support service, virtual subject tutor, lead capture, student retention... are some of the services provided at the 1MillionBot Universities Division.

The mission 1MillionBot Universities Its objective is to lead research on the potential of AI applied to management and academic activity in universities. Additionally, the Executive Council has promoted 1MillionBot SaaS y 1MillionBot Consulting (More information).

"Students are digital and developing a university strategy that corresponds to the current reality begins by offering effective communication that is capable of understanding what students say and think and adapts to their way of working and communicating. The university must adapt and use the new tools available to face the increasingly complex problems of our time. Artificial Intelligence can encourage student participation and efficiently solve management and teaching quality issues” point out Celia Sánchez and Andrés P. Lloret.

1MillionBot has developed university projects and research related to automation, data and AI-based intelligent assistants in around thirty universities that have progressively become success stories of AI-based open conversational language and have been referenced as success stories in specialized publications such as the Harvard Business Review u many others. At the last Wharton World Conference on “Reimagining education and Artificial Intelligence” Spanish cases were cited as worldwide references.

In all cases through the KPIs of Google the rate of effectiveness of the responses has been higher than 91%. The Universities of Zaragoza and Seville have achieved world reference rates in real language comprehension: 98%, measured by Google Dialog Flow and on a universe made up of students who have recently arrived at the University.

Cati (University of Seville) and Pilar (University of Zaragoza) hit rates of 98%

"Lola" the AI-based conversational chatbot from the University of Murcia (UMU) developed by 1MillionBot four years ago answers 24/7 about 270 questions asked in hundreds of different ways with 94,34% accuracy. With Lola's help, the UMU PAS has more time to address complex questions, or situations where emotions are relevant to students or parents. Since 2019 Lola at the UMU has "served" 59.137 users, has had 80.610 conversations and has responded to 234.000 messages.

The success achieved with Lola made 1MillionBot a reference in the sector and has been consolidated with projects (some in the development process) for about thirty universities: University of Murcia, and Polytechnic University of Cartagena (Lola, pre-registration and registration) , Polytechnic University of Valencia, University of Seville, University of Alcalá de Henares, University of the Balearic Islands, University of Jaén, Complutense University of Madrid, Carlos III University of Madrid, Autonomous University of Madrid, Rey Juan Carlos University, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Miguel Hernández University (Chair of Cultural and Creative Industries), University of Alicante (Chair of Private International Law), Antonio Nebrija University (Carina-CoViD), University of León, University of Lleida (Faculty of Nursing), Pablo de Olavide, University of Castilla la Mancha, University of Huelva, University of Almería, Language Center of the University of Valencia, University of Buenos Aires, UNIR... Also 1MillionBot has recently been awarded the tender for the Automated Attention and Information Service (SAI) of the University of Granada. And likewise, there are several projects under development that will be disseminated once completed.

Management automation, student retention and academic success, the three vectors of the Universities Division

Currently, 1MillionBot Universities Division focuses on AI applied to three relevant objectives: Automation of university management, student retention and academic success.

a) PLN, automation and efficiency in the management of university services. The Spanish University dedicates a large number of Administration and Services Personnel dedicated to automatable repetitive administrative processes that could be released to support teaching and research. At the same time, the management and services to the university community experienced a substantial improvement in terms of efficiency, quality and speed. It is a small cost and a great perceptible impact for society in general and especially for the university community (Students, PAS and Professors).

b) Student Retention. Of every three students who enter the university, one does not finish his university studies. This aggravates Spanish youth unemployment -already the highest in Europe-. And own a feeling of frustration and failure in a third of the students, worsening their toughness. In countries like the US, specific data has been exploited and retention levels have increased. The interaction of students with their virtual campus generates very valuable data to recompose the patterns of failure that affect that third part of the student population.
c) student success. an important part of student failure is due to a relevant number of students who drop out of a significant number of subjects. A piece of data derived from the interaction between teacher and students makes it possible to identify the barriers generated by certain material while promoting the generation of more personalized resources that enhance student success. He bartolo project carried out jointly with the Department of Private International Law of the University of Alicante is a pioneering virtual tutor project worldwide that aims to revolutionize the educational sector

Intelligence & Education. A collaborative platform for the development of intelligent virtual assistants

The "expertise" accumulated on the projects carried out with universities has given way to the "Intelligence & Education" project, a pioneering Research and Development (R&D) initiative that has been approved by the CDTI, and that will allow us to delve into a new product that will provide substantial technological improvements with respect to the existing ones and will mean a significant advance in the sector. A collaborative platform of intelligent virtual assistants to improve teaching quality by providing personalized support to students during their university career.

The proposal is focused on offering personalized assistance to students through increasingly empathetic conversations, adapted to the context, which effectively help students understand different subjects and contribute to improving the academic success of each subject. Likewise, specific administrative tasks will be integrated into the university system (registration, request for documents,...) that facilitate repetitive and administrative tasks.

The intelligent assistant uses algorithms and collects and processes student questions over time to improve its ability to make useful recommendations and provide specialized materials that help you improve the learning process of each subject.

The project has also been presented to those responsible for the digital transformation of universities through the sector of the Conference of Rectors CRUE-TIC in order to gather the necessary feedback to develop a project that adapts in a real and effective way to the universities.
