The E-nnova Health 2021 Award awarded to 1millionbot for GAU development, the Intelligent Assistant of the anefp (Association for self-care), recognizing the empowerment of users over their health, has revealed the promising future of AI in the Health sector. A future that places patients at the center.

Health, however, did not seem to be the most obvious place where AI can solve specific needs. The health crisis that we are living has shown that all the resources at our disposal are needed for the care of society to be efficient and global. That is why we are seeing more and more initiatives of a public and private nature that are exploring the capabilities of AI in the field of health.

The patient, in the center

The prize received in Madrid recognizes the joint work, thanks to the anefp and Atrevia, made to raise GAU. This is the acronym for Self-Care Guide and is an intelligent virtual assistant that has been designed so that users can learn about the healthy habits and behaviors that Spaniards are acquiring, crucial to deal with the virus and reduce infections.

In an article about the prize awarded to GAU, Jaume Pey, general director of the anefp assures: «GAU has become part of the anefp team with the idea that little by little citizens find in it a guide for all those self-care tips, health information and healthy habits that allow them to develop responsible self-care»

new solutions

The future that GAU anticipates with the solution provided for users is getting closer. already appear new initiatives where AI is key so that patients who need specific help can obtain it quickly and efficiently.

In Israel, for example, they have developed a mobile application called direction. This project combines AI with clinical knowledge to offer users help in the diagnosis of diseases.

In another study they assure that there are about 40 chatbots on mental health who deal primarily with autism and depression and claim that an Intelligent Assistant can be very helpful in interacting with young people with mental illness.

From another field of health comes Peloton Guide. It is a camera that, thanks to AI, monitors and corrects the postures while the user is performing a table of exercises. In short, the future is already here and AI is knocking on your door.
