The Spanish Cystic Fibrosis Federation (FEFQ) has been honored with the prestigious Social & Public AI Award at AMETIC's 2025 AI Awards. This recognition underscores the brilliance and impact of its Luz-IA project, a virtual assistant designed with heart and technology to provide emotional well-being to people living with cystic fibrosis and their families.
This award, presented at the AMETIC Artificial Intelligence Summit 2025, a key meeting point for industry leaders, experts, and innovators, highlights how artificial intelligence is transcending boundaries and becoming a driving force for improving the quality of life.
At 1MillionBot, who have had the privilege of collaborating closely with the FEFQ on this project, we proudly share this achievement. Bringing our AI expertise to bear on Luz-AI and witnessing its potential to make a real difference in the lives of people with cystic fibrosis is a source of enormous satisfaction. This award reaffirms our belief in the transformative power of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

A recognition of vision and empathy
In a moving speech during the awards ceremony, Juan Da Silva, president of the FEFQ, highlighted the importance of this recognition:
"It's an opportunity to highlight an important need for people with cystic fibrosis and their families: the enormous emotional burden this disease entails. We know that our healthcare system is not always able to meet these needs during particularly difficult times, such as receiving a diagnosis of a chronic and degenerative genetic disease like cystic fibrosis."
He went on to explain how the idea for Luz-AI came about:
"At the FEFQ, with the arrival of AI, we began working on the idea of providing emotional support through technological means. And thus, LuzIA was born, a tool that breaks down barriers and offers the psychological support offered by our associations throughout Spain. 1MillionBot provided the technical side of this tool exactly as we imagined it, understanding that technology can also be sensitive, empathetic, and helpful."
Luz-IA: A beacon of hope and emotional support
Luz-IA is much more than a simple virtual assistant. It's a digital companion designed to offer emotional guidance and ongoing psychosocial support to those living with cystic fibrosis and their families. Aware that this complex disease goes beyond medical treatments, the FEFQ identified the need for ongoing emotional support, especially in areas with limited access to psychological care services.
In response to this reality, Luz-IA is presented as a tool free, anonymous and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a weekWhile it doesn't replace professional care, it does provide a first step toward psychological support, offering specialized information and a virtual listening space.
Luz-AI was created in close collaboration with the Spanish cystic fibrosis psychology group, by 1MillionBot, and thanks to the contributions of people living with the disease, especially Ismael Orquín, a CF volunteer and AI expert, whose involvement has been key throughout the project's development. In its first months of operation, it has proven to be an invaluable and socially transformative resource.
Artificial intelligence has the power to light the way to emotional well-being, and Luz-AI is here to offer that light in the most challenging moments.
Congratulations, FEFQ, on this well-deserved award and for your inspiring work!
