Madrid, July 16, 2024 – 1MillionBot, a company specialized in artificial intelligence, has been awarded the “Ángela Ruiz Robles” National Computing Prize in the 2024 edition awarded by the BBVA Foundation and the Spanish Computer Science Society (SCIE).

The 1MillionBot Prize is awarded for «its contribution to the field of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing technologies, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the development of high-impact applications, with a focus on people and the educational field. As well as for its commitment to the creation and development of the technological ecosystem, both at the national and local level.».

The “Ángela Ruiz Robles” National Computer Science Award is awarded to business activity, corporate or individual, that has promoted innovation and entrepreneurship, promoting developments and applications of computer engineering or other computer science disciplines. The award is named after the inventor of the electronic book, precursor of the current e-book, and outstanding Spanish innovator and entrepreneur.

Winners of the 2024 National Computing Awards

  • Antonio Vallecillo Moreno, professor of Computer Languages ​​and Systems at the University of Malaga: José García Santesmases Award for his outstanding contributions in research, promotion and dissemination of Computer Engineering, especially in model-driven engineering and his leadership in international committees and scientific societies.
  • Alicia Troncoso Lora, Professor of Computer Languages ​​and Systems at the University of Seville: Aritmel Award for her significant contributions in Artificial Intelligence, particularly in machine and deep learning methods, and her impact on the industry through successful transfer projects.
  • David Lopez Alvarez, professor of Computer Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Ramon Llull Award for his outstanding career in Computer Engineering education and his international influence in the development of the ACM/IEEE Computing Curricula.
  • 1MillionBot: Ángela Ruiz Robles Award for her innovation in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing, promoting entrepreneurship and the development of high-impact applications in the educational and technological field.

About the National Computing Awards

The Scientific Computer Science Society of Spain (SCIE) and the BBVA Foundation promote each year the edition of the Scientific Computer Science Society of Spain-BBVA Foundation Research Awards, with the aim of recognizing the work of researchers and entities in the area of ​​computing that They have dedicated their professional careers to the study, strengthening and dissemination of this discipline.

This annual call is awarded in four modalities

  • José García Santesmases Award: Recognizes the career of a researcher in computer engineering for his significant contributions to the promotion, research and dissemination of computer science.
  • Aritmel Award: Aimed at a researcher under 55 years of age who has made outstanding scientific contributions in computer engineering.
  • Ramón Llull Award: Rewards the career of a computer engineering professor for his innovative and significant contributions to the teaching and development of computer science in the academic field.
  • Ángela Ruiz Robles Award: Recognizes business, corporate or individual activity that has promoted innovation and entrepreneurship in computing, in honor of the inventor of the electronic book.

Nominations can be submitted by university rectors and deans, directors of departments and faculties related to computing, as well as scientific and professional associations in computing, and groups of at least five researchers in the discipline. For the Ángela Ruiz Robles Award, nominations can also be direct by companies.
