About the Chatbot Rafa, expert in Fondillón

More than 500 years ago, the Alicante Orchard (Horta d'Alacant) extended over a wide area of 3700 hectares that ran through land in Alicante, Mutxamel, Sant Joan, El Campello and other nearby towns. In this space, productive since Roman times, cereals, almond trees, citrus fruits, olive trees, barrilla to make soap, vines were cultivated... To prevent the attacks of the Barbary pirates and the Turkish fleet, a defense system consisting of towers of defense that served as watchtowers from which to monitor the Mediterranean.

One of those towers was Torre Juana, now a few minutes from the San Juan de Alicante University Hospital. In 2016, it was acquired by IT&IS Siglo XXI, a startup linked to the digital economy that promotes very diverse technological projects, such as ONE MILLION BOT, a company specialized in the development of virtual assistants based on artificial intelligence (AI).

In Torre Juana, projects are also carried out that seek to value the cultural heritage that the place represents. One of them has been the recovery of the Monastrel grape in the area thanks to the collaboration of the oenologist Rafael Poveda, who a few years ago proposed carrying out a symbolic plantation with his Vinalopó vines (currently the base for the production of fondillon wine ) to recover it at its origins, that is, the Huerta de Alicante and especially Torre Juana, according to Poveda the most important historic fondillon winery in the aforementioned garden. Thus, in September 2021 the I Fondillón Harvest in Torre Juana, and a year later the second edition of this activity was held, where the creation of an AI-based virtual assistant was announced to disseminate the history of fondillón, the Huerta de Alicante and its defense towers.

This virtual assistant is already a reality. His name is 'Rafa' and you can talk to him here. The answers it offers are based on information obtained from web pages, books and articles by historians, researchers, winemakers, oenologists, etc. Together with the integrated power of ChatGPT, Rafa's virtual assistant is capable of answering any question you may have. do precisely.

As Rafael González, PhD in Hispanic Philology and project coordinator at ONE MILLION BOT, explains, «'Rafa' presents the novelty in the field of virtual assistants of having relied on ChatGPT for its creation. Many of the questions you can currently answer were 'told' to us by ChatGPT. In addition, when Rafa is asked a question and he cannot answer it with his knowledge base, the answer of the transform, yes, with the timely warning that this answer has been created by a generative AI, and not by the staff of ONE MILLION BOT from bibliography. However, as soon as we locate that question answered by ChatGPT, we proceed to verify the information to make sure that, in subsequent requests, the answer that will be offered will be 100% reliable.

'Rafa' joins other 1 MILLION BOT projects that put AI at the service of cultural dissemination and education, such as 'DulcineIA' (a chatbot capable of answering more than 1000 questions about the first part of 'Don Quixote') or 'Plácido' (created for the Filmoteca de la Generalitat Valenciana on the centenary of the filmmaker Luis García Berlanga).
